We will support you through the exciting challenge of making a coat!
The Coat Club will take place over 3 fortnights giving you time to work on your coat in between sessions. Get support in the bits you need it the most. Let's prevent any more projects from being relegated to the land of UFOs (unfinished objects) and WIP-Prison (work-in-progress prison). Let us help you tackle the tricky bits!

Fortnightly course plan;
Workshop 1
Once you start making your coat, we can unpick and fix almost anything. But, if you cut out incorrectly, or choose the wrong size we can't fix that.
- Taking your measurements, selecting your size
- Identifying pattern pieces for your selected view (variation)
- Laying up the pattern and pinning it correctly
- Cutting technique, transferring pattern markings
- Discussing other notions and your plan of attack

Workshop 2
- Tricky techniques! Facings, understitching, stay stitching, setting in a sleeve, clipping corners.
- Check-in on where you are up to and your further plan of attack

- Lined sleeves with clean finishes... is it even possible? How to bag out a lining.
- Mitred corners
- Hemming
Participants need to: choose, purchase and print their pattern.
Here are some of the coats Danielle has made:
- Alegra Coat by Style Arc. This pattern is unlined and includes optional pockets, coat and jacket length. Popular Cocoon silhouette. Instructions are for intermediate to advanced with limited details. Danielle has made 2 of these.
- Nova Coat by PaperCut. Lined cocoon silhouette. Jacket and coat length. Detailed instructions are written for those newer to sewing. Super popular pattern. Danielle has made 4 of these, plus many in class.
- Richmond Coat by Tessuti. Single-breasted long oversized coat. Fully lined. Detailed instructions with photographs covering tricky techniques. Danielle made and loves her Richmond.
- 8509 Vintage Coat by Simplicity. Oversized 1950s coat with raglan sleeves. Fully lined. 3 views. Intermediate skills with simple instruction sheet. Danielle has made 1 of these.
- Romana By Hand London. Single or double-breasted long coat. Good instructions, but some tricky details. Fully lined with princess seams. Danielle has made 1 Romana and chose to leave it unlined.
- Ulysses Trench Coat by Victory Patterns. Modern trench coat style. Detailed instructions with some trickier bits. Unlined Coat. Danielle has made 2 of these - 1 from a wool blend and another from satin.

We have all the tools you'll need. Each participant is set up with fabric shears, pinking shears, thread snips, unpicker, hand needles, tape measures, pins, tailor's chalks, hem guides, ironing/pressing tools, rulers, stationery... there is no need to lug around your whole sewing kit. We've taken care of it all.

The garments you have been making are from a wide variety of woven and knit fabrics, including challenging materials like silk blends. You are keen to gain knowledge that will allow you to alter patterns, improve the fit of garments, achieve impressive results and learn couture sewing techniques.

Cancellations & Refunds
If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
You’re welcome to send someone in your place.
OR
- A refund can be requested 1 day before class starts. An admin fee of AU$35.00 applies.
- A transfer can be requested 4 days before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$10.00 applies.
- A credit note can be requested 4 days before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$10.00 applies.
No changes will be allowed after these times.

Attendance & Preparation
Taking part in a workshop at Thread Den is fun, and we love teaching people our craft, but it''s your responsibility to clear your diary for the session(s) you''ve booked, especially if your course runs across multiple weeks. To finish your project, you''ll need to attend every session and arrive on time. Unfortunately, we can''t go back over material already covered, as it wouldn''t be fair to your fellow participants.
Please bear with us on this next point: our workshops and courses are usually booked out weeks in advance, so it isn''t always possible to simply move you into another session. If a suitable class is running and has space, we''ll try to offer you a discounted spot to help you catch up. If that''s not an option, you may need to book a private lesson to stay on track.
We also won''t chase you up to confirm you''re coming to class or that you have the right supplies. Most workshops require you to bring your own materials; we only offer a supplies kit at an additional cost for the Sewing Basics 3 Week Course. If you''re ever unsure what to bring, just email us at info@threadden.com and we''ll point you in the right direction.
We want you to love what you make just as much as we do, so please take our fabric recommendations seriously. Choosing a fabric suited to a more advanced skill level can make the experience frustrating rather than fun.
We do our best to answer common questions in each workshop description, but please don''t hesitate to email us with anything else. And we''d genuinely love to see the fabric you''re considering, we''re always happy to point you toward our favourite fabric and haberdashery suppliers.
