This accredited Food Handlers course, SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety, provides essential food safety and hygiene training for people working with food in the hospitality industry.

A food handler is anyone who works in a food business and handles food or food contact surfaces, including cutlery, crockery or equipment. This may include preparing, cooking, serving, packing, displaying, transporting, storing, processing or delivering food.

Under Australian Food Safety Standard 3.2.2A – Food Safety Practices and General Requirements, food handlers and their supervisors must have the food safety and hygiene skills and knowledge relevant to their work.

Course Coverage

  • Correct food storage temperatures and handling of high-risk, potentially hazardous foods.
  • Personal hygiene practices and safe food handling procedures.
  • Cleaning and sanitising of food preparation areas, plus basic pest control measures.

Assessment

  • The assessment quiz includes 23 questions and must be completed in one sitting.
  • Participants have 2 attempts and must achieve 100% to be deemed satisfactory.
  • The portfolio includes a personal presentation photograph and explanation, hazard report, cross-contamination photograph and explanation, and hand-washing video.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety. Certificate processing may take up to 10 working days and is sent electronically.

Important Information

  • A good understanding of spoken and written English is required.
  • This course is designed for the hospitality sector, including restaurants, cafés and small food businesses.
  • It is not suitable for health or aged care sectors, such as hospitals or residential care facilities.
