Self-Watering Timber Planter Box
Turn reclaimed timber into something practical, beautiful, and built by you in this hands-on carpentry workshop. Across the session, you will design and make a self-watering planter box while learning key fundamentals such as proportions, timber strength, drainage, and moisture management.
With guidance from an experienced tutor, you will plan your build, create a simple cutting list, and select and prepare reclaimed materials for construction. You will measure, cut, de-nail, and assemble your planter box using essential tools such as saws, drills, clamps, and squares.
The workshop also covers safe workshop practice and outdoor finishing options, including oils and sealers, so your planter is sturdy, functional, and made to last. By the end, you will take home a completed planter box and practical woodworking skills for future DIY projects.
Course Outline
- Safety, PPE, safe handling of reclaimed timber, and tool demonstrations.
- Design planning, sizing, drainage, cutting lists, timber preparation, and dry fitting.
- Assembly techniques, fixing methods, finishing options, care advice, and ways to adapt the design at home.

- Reclaimed timber, outdoor-rated screws, liner material, and finishing oils or sealers.
- PPE and access to workshop tools including saws, drills, clamps, measuring tools, de-nailing tools, and sanding tools.

You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

- A refund can be requested 10 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$45.00 applies.

Cancel More Than 10 Days Before the Course Starts – You can choose to receive a full refund, minus a $45 administration fee OR a non-refundable credit note valid for 12 months for the full value you paid for the course. This credit can be used towards any future course at the College.
Option 2: Cancel Within 10 Days of the Course Starting - You’ll receive a credit note valid for 12 months for 50% of the course fee you paid for the course. This credit can be used towards any future course at the College.
Please note that both refund and credit options are only available before the course begins. Once the course has started—or if you decide to withdraw after it has commenced—no refunds or credits can be issued. If you need to cancel your enrolment, just email us and we’ll take care of it based on the timelines above.
