• What sewing experience do I need to start taking classes?

  No prior experience is required. Our Sewing Basics 3 Week Course is specifically designed for absolute beginners with no experience needed. You'll learn terminology, tools, patterns, fabric anatomy, and cutting technique over nine hours of hands-on instruction in a small-group setting. We also offer the Beginner & Beyond Learn to Sew Course, which runs for 5 or 10 weeks and is suitable for both absolute beginners and intermediate sewists.

• What tools and materials are provided in classes?

  Most classes include comprehensive tool provision. In our Private Sewing Lessons and FreeStyle Sessions, we provide fabric shears, pinking shears, thread snips, unpickers, hand needles, tape measures, pins, tailor's chalk, hem guides, ironing and pressing tools, and sewing machines with overlockers available. For workshops like the Knitting Machine 6hr Basics, the machine and yarn supplies are included. You should check individual class descriptions for specific inclusions, as some courses may require you to bring certain items.

• How much do private sewing lessons cost and how long are they?

  Private Sewing Lessons are $199 for 3 hours of one-on-one tailored instruction. We also offer All Ages Private Sewing Lessons with various options: 1.5 to 2 hours for single students (ages 12+), or 1.5 hours for a child (ages 7+) with an observing adult. • Are there discounts available for multiple bookings?

  Yes. A 10% discount applies to multiple workshop bookings for one student, bookings between siblings within the same school holiday period, and bookings with friends on the same workshop. Use code MULTIPLE10 at the final checkout screen. Additionally, the Beginner & Beyond Learn to Sew Course offers a $50 savings when you book the full term.

• What types of projects will I make in beginner classes?

  In the Sewing Basics 3 Week Course, you'll make a new project every week as you build skills. In the Beginner & Beyond Course, beginner-level students work on structured projects or their own ideas over 5 or 10 weeks. First-garment options include cushions with invisible zips (3 hours), pyjama pants with pockets and elastic waist (6 hours), or a simple shift dress (7.5 hours). Sewing Workshops let you choose from available projects offered each day.

• What is a FreeStyle Session and how does it work?

  FreeStyle Sessions are fortnightly, self-directed sessions where you bring your own project (whether it's a WIP, a new pattern, or an unfinished object) and work on it in our fully equipped studio. Sessions are kept to a maximum of 6 makers, and your station includes a sewing machine, overlocker, steam generator iron, shears, cutting tools, and full access to our cutting room, drafting tables, and well-stocked tool collection. A teacher is on hand to provide support when you need it.
